The Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center Critical Care Tower is a new five-story, 193,480-square-foot facility. It features 60 critical care beds, 36 patient rooms, and a fully renovated surgical suite. Additional upgrades include an expanded Sterile Processing Department, increased pre-operative and post-operative space, and a redesigned hospital drop-off and pick-up area. A crucial part to the success of this project was engaging our MEP trade partners during the Design Development phase to support constructibility studies, cost estimating, and early equipment procurement.

A new four-story addition and vertical expansion adding 150,000 square feet of space, along with 50,000 square feet of renovations and major mechanical and electrical upgrades. Structural enhancements include new concrete shear walls from the basement to the second floor within occupied hospital areas. The expansion features operating rooms, support services, endoscopy and procedure rooms, patient and ICU rooms, as well as catheterization and vascular laboratories.

The Tower Modernization project included facade repairs, window replacements, and recladding of vertical inset areas. The exterior upgrades involved replacing window inset areas with a full-height curtain wall, repointing masonry, installing new window lintel flashing, and reinforcing the brick veneer. Interior renovations covered patient rooms and bathrooms, featuring new flooring, ceilings, paint, fixtures, and partial shower replacements. To minimize disruptions, the 12-story tower’s upgrades were completed in 10 vertical phases over two years.

The 263,000-square-foot Heart & Vascular Institute, which includes a penthouse, is designed to enhance care for oncology and cardiology patients. This state-of-the-art facility promotes a collaborative, integrated approach to treatment, ensuring improved services within a single location. Additionally, the building will be linked to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center through an enclosed over street walkway, providing seamless connectivity for patients and staff.

This project consisted of new construction of campus plant facility totaling 120,000 sf. The facility included a state of the art emergency power system housing 4 in-line generators capable of immediate start – load determination, and proper adjustment to serve the entire main campus of the hospital.
